When they left the bazaar, the city was still alive.
But it no longer felt the same.
It was as if Arcanium had noticed them.
Or at least… it no longer ignored them.
They walked.
Back through the same streets.
But there was no sense of return.
Because they were not going back.
Only moving forward.
Evelynne walked ahead.
Her steps were steady.
Neither fast nor slow.
Theo stayed beside her.
Rain followed a little behind.
Not distant.
Just detached.
Learning.
Not from the city.
From himself.
After a while, Evelynne stopped.
Inside a narrow street.
The stone walls were older here.
Quieter.
She pointed at a door.
"This is it," she said.
Theo looked.
"A house?"
Evelynne nodded.
"Rented."
The door opened.
Inside was similar to the previous place.
But warmer.
More lived-in.
A table.
Two chairs.
A bed.
And a small kitchen area.
Simple.
But enough.
Rain stepped inside.
Paused.
Touched the wall with his hand.
It was cold.
But not unfamiliar.
Theo went to the window.
Looked outside.
The street was visible.
But distant.
"This is good," he said.
Evelynne did not respond.
She only placed the keys on the table.
"You can stay here for a while," she said.
A brief silence followed.
Then she added:
"You are on your own steps now."
Rain did not hear the sentence again.
But this time, its meaning was different.
Evelynne turned toward the door.
"I'm leaving."
Theo turned.
"Are you going?"
Evelynne did not stop.
"If needed, I'll find you."
And she left.
The door closed.
Silence remained.
But this time it was not empty.
The house was quiet.
But alive.
Theo sat at the table.
Rain stood across from him.
They did not speak for a while.
Then Theo let out a small laugh.
"This is weird," he said.
Rain looked at him.
"What is?"
"Being free."
Rain thought about it.
Not long.
But deeply.
"Yes," he said.
"Weird."
The sun was lowering.
Light hit the window.
Like gold.
Time slowed.
Then Rain stood up.
"Where's the kitchen?"
Theo pointed.
"There."
Rain walked.
For the first time, he did something without thinking.
He simply did it.
Filled water.
Opened a small pot.
Simple things.
Theo watched him.
"Are you cooking?" he asked.
Rain nodded.
"Yes."
"Do you know how?"
Rain stopped.
Thought for a moment.
"No."
Theo laughed.
"Me neither."
They started together.
Simple.
Slow.
Mistakes happened.
Water spilled.
Something overheated.
But no one corrected anything.
They just continued.
Soon, the meal was ready.
They sat at the table.
And ate.
Quietly.
But the silence was different.
It was not heavy.
It was soft.
When the sun set, the house dimmed.
Theo stood up.
"There's a balcony," he said.
Rain nodded.
They went out together.
Night had begun.
The city lay below.
Lights were on.
But it felt distant.
Theo leaned on the railing.
Rain stood beside him.
They stayed silent for a while.
Then Theo said,
"Today…" he paused, searching for the word.
"Was normal."
Rain looked at him.
"Normal?"
Theo nodded.
"I think so."
Rain looked at the sky.
There was a moon.
Full.
Quiet.
"I liked it," he said.
Theo turned his head.
"That's all?"
Rain paused briefly.
Then added:
"I don't know more than that."
Theo gave a faint smile.
"That's enough."
The wind blew.
The city lived below.
But up here…
it was only them.
And silence was no longer an enemy.
It was a place.
Like a beginning.
Rain leaned slightly on the railing.
Theo did the same.
Their shoulders lightly touched.
This time, no one pulled away.
And time…
slowed again.
Until thoughts fell silent.
And the night…
let them drift into sleep.
Morning didn't feel like the one before.
It was softer.
More ordinary.
As light slipped through the curtains, the city was already awake.
But inside the house, it was still half asleep.
Rain was the first to wake.
He lay there for a while without opening his eyes.
Staring at the ceiling.
Thinking about nothing.
That was new.
Theo stirred beside him.
"Is it still morning?" he mumbled.
Rain looked toward the window.
"Yes."
Theo stayed quiet for a moment.
Then buried his face in the pillow.
"Early."
Rain slowly sat up.
He didn't rush to get up.
He just existed.
After a while, they both got up.
The house wasn't cold.
But it wasn't warm either.
It was just… neutral.
In the kitchen, they made something simple.
A cleaner version of what they had made the day before.
Theo toasted the bread too much.
Rain heated the water a bit too long.
No one corrected anything.
They just ate.
The silence this time was different.
Not empty.
Familiar.
Then they went outside.
The city was the same again.
But they were different.
As the day went on, nothing happened.
And that "nothing" felt new.
They returned to the bazaar.
This time, Evelynne wasn't there.
Just the two of them.
Theo stopped in front of a stall.
Looked at small, colorful stones.
"What are these for?" he said.
The vendor shrugged.
"Decoration."
Theo picked one up.
Studied it.
Then put it back.
"Useless, but nice."
Rain stood beside him.
Looking at a fabric stall.
This time without touching anything.
Just watching.
"Too many colors," he said.
Theo laughed.
"I think it's normal."
They walked a bit further.
Then saw a street musician.
Playing a simple instrument.
The melody wasn't complicated.
But it wasn't unpleasant either.
Theo stopped.
Listened.
Rain stopped as well.
For the first time, neither of them was going anywhere.
They were just listening.
After a while, Theo said,
"I've never done this before,"
Rain looked at him.
"What?"
"Just standing still and doing nothing."
Rain thought about it.
"Me neither."
The music continued.
The crowd passed by.
But they didn't move.
By noon, they ate something small.
From a street vendor.
Standing.
Sitting on a bench.
Slowly.
Normally.
Theo swung his foot.
"Strange," he said.
Rain asked,
"What is?"
"That there's nothing to make big of."
Rain paused for a moment.
Then nodded.
"Good or bad?"
Theo shrugged.
"I don't know."
But he smiled.
The afternoon passed even more simply.
They found a park.
A small green space inside the city.
Children were playing.
People were sitting.
No one was in a hurry.
Theo lay down on the grass.
"I could sleep here," he said.
Rain sat down.
"Do it."
Theo closed his eyes.
"You too."
Rain looked at him.
"Not now."
But a little later, he also lay down.
Looked at the sky.
There were clouds.
Moving slowly.
Nothing was difficult.
Nothing felt heavy.
A child ran past them.
Laughing.
Theo spoke without opening his eyes.
"Were we like that too?"
Rain didn't answer right away.
Then:
"I don't remember."
Theo gave a soft laugh.
"Me neither."
Silence returned.
But this time, it wasn't something missing.
It was complete.
When the sun began to lean toward evening, they were still there.
They didn't get up immediately.
They just stayed.
Then Theo stood up.
"I'm hungry," he said.
Rain nodded.
"Me too."
They walked back toward their home.
The same streets.
The same city.
But it no longer felt different.
It was just… a path.
And that was enough.
